All spring, we’ll be hosting our exciting animal shows and feeding shows, so don’t miss out!
Every New Braunfels native knows about the Snake Farm off of 1-35 on exit 182. Since 1967, the Snake Farm has been one the most prominent must-see attractions in the San Antonio/Austin area. It’s home to an extensive collection of snakes, reptiles, and other exotic animals. After new ownership took over in 2007, plans were made to transform the place into something more than a roadside attraction. That’s when the transition began, changing the brand from “The Snake Farm” to “Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo”.
With the re-brand, came an expansion, renovation, restoration, and rebuild of many of the exhibits. The exhibits have massively increased in size and even feature a live biome. This makes a happier and healthier lifestyle for our animals. The new ownership and re-brand also allowed us to become a Zoological Association of America accredited park. With the improved environment for animals and guests like, we were able to gain full ZAA accreditation. We owe this feat to our dedicated team of Zoologists who have taken animal care to the highest standards.
One of our top priorities is to provide our guests with a unique experience not seen at other zoos. We provide an intimate and close-up experience with our animals through private one-on-one encounters and animal shows. Through these hands-on interactions, visitors are encouraged to make genuine connections that will last a lifetime. We feature encounters with animals that you can’t have anywhere else in the area.
For example, our most popular encounter occurring right now is with the enigmatic capybara. Capybaras are friendly rodents from South America who are comfortable with human interaction. We allow you to feed our capybara tasty lettuce and other greens.
Animal encounters are one of the things we do best at Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo. So it would be a disservice to you if we failed to tell you about more of our favorite animal encounters. The fennec fox is another exciting encounter that we offer. These nocturnal furballs are the smallest canine living in the wild today. Like the capybara, they co-habitat well with each other and are friendly to humans. During your encounter, they will act calm and lazy as they allow you to give them gentle pets. You can hold our foxes for a photo as long as the flash is turned off. Our fennec foxes are named Fred and Joe. They would love to have an encounter with you!
But where are the reptile encounters you might ask? Well “Snake Farm” is part of who we are and so of course we’ll tell you about our thrilling burmese python encounter! Our Burmese python is a friendly serpent named Simon who is well acquainted with people. During your encounter with Simon, you get to hold him up yourself as if you were the branches of a jungle tree. He’ll slither around curiously but don’t worry. Our expert keepers will be there the whole way through to guide you through the encounter and make sure both you and Simon remain content.
Those are just a few of the exciting things going on at Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo in New Braunfels. We hope to make your list of kid-friendly events for 2024.
