Information and Policies
Guest Policies
- Review and follow all guest policies listed here.
- For the safety of our animals and to support our sustainability-focused mission, plastic disposable straws are strictly prohibited.
- Students should be reminded that this is the animal’s home and should be respectful regarding noise level and teasing animals. No animals should be touched or offered food at any time without guidance from an Animal Care Specialist except designated animals in the petting zoo.
- At no time should any guest cross or climb red safety barriers, open any gates other than the petting zoo gate, or enter any “Staff Only” areas. This can create a serious hazard for animals and guests.
Admission Pricing and Payment
- Students, staff, parents, siblings: Everyone ages 3 and older must have an admission ticket. Refer to your quote for your pricing.
- Must have a minimum of 15 students to qualify for the field trip rate.
- Parents are eligible for the field trip rate ONLY when paid by the field trip coordinator as a group. If coming through the line individually, the standard admission rate will apply.
- To apply tax exemption, we require a copy of your tax-exempt form prior to payment. *Note: Tax-exempt forms must be completely filled out including signature, title
of signer, and date. Tax exemption only applies to the group ticket purchase; parents purchasing tickets separately are subject to tax. - Payment (cash, check, or card) must be made on the day of your visit in one transaction. Failure to pay on the date of your visit will result in a late fee.
Cancellations/Refunds
- Give as much prior notice as possible.

Rain Dates
- If the weather is questionable, email awsfzoo@gmail.com, or call (830) 402-4603 the morning of your field trip to discuss rescheduling options.
- The zoo is open rain or shine! We do have a reservation area that is under cover and protected from the rain.
Picnic Tables
- You have picnic tables included with your visit for up to two hours. However, please note that we don’t have a time limit, you can stay as long as you like!
Add-on Options
Petting zoo feed, cups of mealworms, and mining packages are an additional fee for all zoo visitors. To add these items at a discounted rate to your reservation, they must be ordered 48 hours in advance by listing them on the check-in form. To see all add-on options, click here.
*Note: Regular zoo rates will apply on add-ons if not purchased by the group at least 48 hours in advance.
Check-In Process
Be Prepared
- Read all information on this portal and inform teachers and chaperones of guest policies.
- Pre-order zoo treats, mining packages, and animal encounters at least 48 hours in advance.
Check-in Form
- Complete the check-in form at least 48 hours in advance. Do not submit until the numbers are finalized.
- The final invoice will be sent after we have received and processed the form.
- The final invoice is due and payable upon arrival.
What to Bring
- Water bottles.
- Outside food and drink are welcome (No plastic straws).
- Wear weather appropriate attire such as jackets, raincoats, umbrellas, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes.
- Group leader should carry a cell phone and leave a phone number with the zoo’s group coordinator.

Parking Lot Arrival
- All buses must park in the bus parking lot. Buses are prohibited from parking/unloading in the primary lot.
- To access the bus parking lot, the driver will need to take the Solms Exit (Exit 183.) *Note: If the driver uses the Engel Road exit, they will not be able to get to the bus parking lot.
- The bus parking entrance will be marked with a large, yellow flag. Please turn into that entry. Please refer to the map below for further instructions on where to enter the parking area.
- Parents arriving separately and parents driving students to and from the field trip will park in the blue areas, marked “Primary Lot” and “Overflow Parking.”
Group Leader Check-in
- The group leader (school field trip coordinator) will be responsible for the payment.
- Payments will be collected at the front entrance either upon arrival or after the students have been escorted to their animal encounter location.
- We accept credit cards, cash, or checks. *Note: We cannot accept purchase orders as a form of payment.
- If you school/district prefers, an invoice can be provided to you after your visit and a check can be mailed to us for the exact amount.
After Your Visit
We want to hear from you! After your visit, you will receive an email from our Education Manager with a link to an optional survey that you can fill out and let us know how we did. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to you visiting us again for next year’s field trip season!
